Restrictions imposed near one route to ensure peaceful Muharram day in Sgr: Police

Say due to restrictions general public, tourists faced certain inconvenience, which is regretted

Srinagar, Aug 07 : Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday said that restrictions were imposed in the jurisdiction of 8 police stations of Srinagar near one prohibited route to ensure law and order situation does not arise.

In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Srinagar police said that due to restrictions general public and tourists had to face certain inconvenience which is regretted.

The statement reads that restrictions were imposed in jurisdictions of 8 police stations of the city near one prohibited route, which was done so as to ensure that law & order situation doesn’t arise.

“Due to restrictions, general public and tourists had to face certain inconvenience which is regretted but this was done for larger public good to ensure a peaceful day devoid of any scope whatsoever of communal and sectarian clashes or altercation with police and security forces,” it reads.

The statement reads that some youth sporadically tried to come out individually at certain places but they were taken into preventive custody without using any force or without using tear gas etc.

“Neither any anti-national slogan nor any communal slogan was heard today. Thus no case was registered unlike last year’s 8th Muharram,” it added.

It also reads that restrictions of travel in these areas is being removed now and overall situation remained completely peaceful in the city.
