“Our prime objective is to elevate the quality of life through modern technology and inclusive design,” Sinha said while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the redeveloped pedestrian Amira Kadal Bridge in Srinagar.

The LG highlighted that the administration is committed to protecting the soul of every city while upgrading or renovating infrastructure. “By preserving historic lanes, bridges, traditional markets, lively squares, and peaceful green spaces, we are weaving modern amenities into the cultural heartbeat of each city,” he said.

Emphasizing the importance of heritage-sensitive development, Sinha added that renovation and urban infrastructure projects should serve as a bridge linking heritage with contemporary needs.

He noted that this approach is already evident in several cities across Jammu and Kashmir. Key projects include the Jhelum Riverfront, Lal Chowk and MA Road redevelopment, Polo View High Street, Traditional Souq Market and Craft Centre at Batmaloo, lakefront development along Northern Foreshore Road from Nishat to Naseem Bagh–Habak, improvement of ghats along the Jhelum, façade enhancement of heritage markets in Shehr-e-Khaas, road improvements from Dogra Chowk to KC Chowk, Apsara Road High Street, Canal Road at Talab Tillo, development of the heritage stretch from Mubarak Mandi to Raghunath Bazaar, approach road to Bahu Fort Temple, Ranbir Canal Blue-Green Walkway, and the Tawi Riverfront.

“These projects are not only attracting tourists enchanted by their timeless charm but also boosting local businesses and strengthening the economy,” he said.

LG Sinha added that by revitalizing cities while preserving cultural heritage, “we are honoring our roots,” and stressed that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure to build a brighter, more resilient future for the younger generation.

The Amira Kadal pedestrian bridge project, executed at a cost of Rs 7.70 crore under Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), was launched in December 2023, ensuring careful attention to heritage conservation, structural safety, and quality control.

Interacting with local shopkeepers and traders, Sinha said the bridge will improve accessibility, enhance commercial activity, and provide a pleasant experience for tourists.

The inauguration was attended by Ahsan Pardesi, MLA Lal Chowk; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; VK Birdi, IGP Kashmir; Akshay Labroo, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; Faz Lul Haseeb, CEO Srinagar Smart City Limited; senior officials, trade association members, and prominent citizens.    (Agencies)
