Rajinikanth has reportedly become the highest-earning actor in India following the massive success of his latest film, “Jailer,” which has raked in over Rs 650 crores worldwide. As the film achieved historic success, producer Kalanithi Maran from Sun Pictures met with the iconic actor and presented him with a substantial check.
According to the noted film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the envelope that Maran handed over to the ‘Robot’ star contained a single profit-sharing cheque worth Rs 100 crore from the City Union Bank of Mandaveli branch in Chennai.
Before this, Rajini had been already paid a remuneration of Rs 110 crore for the movie. With earning a total of Rs 210 crore for ‘Jailer’, Rajinikanth became the highest-paid actor in India, Manobala said.
According to Sacnilk, “Jailer” has become the third highest-grossing South Indian film in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, trailing only behind “KGF: Chapter 2” and “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.”
Apart from Rajinikanth, Jailer also features Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi and Tamannaah Bhatia in pivotal roles. Veteran actors Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff also appear in the film which has been produced by Sun Pictures.
The Tamil film has been dubbed in Hindi, Kannada and Telugu languages. After opening at ₹48.35 crore nett in all languages, the action film collected ₹235.85 crore in its first week. In week 2, Jailer did a business of ₹62.95 crore.
After earning ₹2.4 crore nett on its fourth Thursday (August 31), as per early estimates, the Rajinikanth film took its total to ₹328.2 crore nett in India in all languages, reported Sacnilk.com.
