Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, speaking at the ‘Vote Adhikar Rally’ in Bengaluru on Friday, reiterated his allegations of electoral malpractice and took a sharp swipe at the Election Commission.
He accused the poll body of working hand-in-glove with the BJP to “steal the Lok Sabha election from the people.”
Reacting to the Commission’s demand for an affidavit under oath to support his claims, Gandhi said, “The Election Commission is asking me to submit an affidavit and give information under oath. But I have already taken an oath in Parliament while holding the Constitution.”
Rahul Gandhi on Friday claimed that the Election Commission had taken down its website after questions were raised over data he had released.
According to him, the EC websites for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar were taken offline because authorities feared that public scrutiny of the data could “collapse the entire system.”
The former Congress president alleged that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the INDIA alliance had emerged victorious, but just four months later, the BJP secured a surprising win in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
“Upon investigation, we found that one crore new voters, who did not participate in the Lok Sabha polls, had cast their votes in the Maharashtra Assembly election,” he said, alleging that most of these new votes went to the BJP.
“Wherever these new voters voted, the BJP won. Our alliance’s vote count remained exactly the same as in the Lok Sabha elections. It was these new voters who propelled the BJP’s success in the Assembly polls,” he added. (Agencies)
