Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to the fallen heroes, stating that their courage continues to inspire every Indian.

In his message, the Prime Minister said, “Remembering the brave heroes who laid down their lives in Pulwama on this day in 2019. Their devotion, resolve and service to the nation remain forever etched in our collective consciousness. Every Indian draws strength from their enduring courage.”

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan also paid homage to the brave CRPF personnel, saying their sacrifice will forever be engraved in the nation’s history and continue to inspire future generations.

On February 14, 2019, Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district witnessed one of the deadliest terror attacks in the region when 40 CRPF personnel were killed after a suicide bomber targeted their convoy on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway.

The convoy consisted of 78 buses carrying nearly 2,500 personnel from Jammu to Srinagar. Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack.

In response, India launched a series of counter-terror operations, including airstrikes on terror camps across the border, leading to heightened tensions between the two countries.

The Pulwama attack is remembered as a ‘Black Day’, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of the 40 CRPF personnel and reigniting global discussions on cross-border terrorism and security in Jammu and Kashmir. (Agencies)
