Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, traveled to Srinagar on Friday in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

The day before, the central government held an all-party meeting to discuss the security situation and formulate a unified response to the attack.

After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi stated, “Everyone condemned the Pahalgam terror attack. The opposition has expressed full support to the government in taking necessary actions.”

Rahul Gandhi, who had been on an official visit to the United States, cut his trip short and returned to New Delhi early Thursday morning.

The terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, with several others injured.

In response to the attack, India has implemented strong countermeasures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism.

During the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, India decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan credibly abandons its support for cross-border terrorism. Additionally, the Integrated Attari Check Post has been closed.

India also declared several Pakistani High Commission officials persona non grata, ordering them to leave the country within a week. The government also canceled visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) and gave Pakistan 48 hours to leave India.

Meanwhile, families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack are mourning their losses, calling on the government to take decisive action against those responsible for the attack.

The Indian Army remains on high alert, conducting several search operations to eliminate the terrorists behind the attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 deaths.
