Qazigund, Feb 3: Two personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department were injured while dousing a fire in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, officials said.
According to officials, the fire broke out at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund and rapidly spread through the building before being brought under control. The incident was reported by the news agency.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel, with assistance from the police and local residents, launched a firefighting operation to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
“Two firefighters from the F&ES Qazigund unit sustained injuries during the operation,” an official said.
The injured personnel were identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Wani and Waseem Mehraj Shah, both posted at the F&ES Qazigund unit. They were immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where their condition was stated to be stable.
Officials said multiple fire tenders were pressed into service, and the blaze was eventually brought under control, averting further damage. (Agencies)
