Adventure junkies always have a set bucket list of places they wish to explore and adventures they want to embark on. While many make sure to try it ‘once’ in their lives, many end up making it their life. Meet Shital Mahajan, a well-known Indian skydiver, who has achieved a new feat by becoming the first woman in the world to jump off a helicopter from the height of 21,500 feet in front of Mt Everest.
Mahajan, 41, a recipient of the fourth highest Indian civilian award Padma Shri and a holder of several skydiving records, completed skydiving on the front side of Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, on November 13.
On November 11, Mahajan took her first leap from 5,000 feet AGL (Above Ground Level) at a staggering 17,500 feet altitude, successfully landing at 12,500 feet at Syangboche airport with legendary skydiver Wendy Smith from New Zealand serving as her instructor within the aircraft.
On November 12, Mahajan did a flag jump with the Indian flag at Syangboche airport from 8,000 feet along with skydiving legend Camerawomen Wendy Elizabeth Smith and Nadia Solovyeva and achieved the national record for the highest flag skydiving landing by a woman.
Mahajan’s relentless pursuit of challenges reached its pinnacle on November 13 when she executed a jump at Amadablam mountain base camp from an awe-inspiring altitude of 23,000 feet, landing at an elevation of 15,091 feet. Having completed a total of four parachute jumps in the Everest region within a span of three days, Mahajan’s courage and determination shone brightly.
