Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his condolences on the demise of His Holiness Pope Francis.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Deeply pained by the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. In this hour of grief and remembrance, my heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community.”
He hailed Pope Francis as a symbol of compassion, humility, and spiritual strength, saying, “He will always be remembered as a beacon of compassion, humility and spiritual courage by millions across the world. From a young age, he dedicated himself to upholding the values of Lord Christ and tirelessly served the poor and the downtrodden, instilling hope in the hearts of the suffering.”
PM Modi also recalled his meetings with the Pope, stating, “I fondly recall my interactions with him and was deeply inspired by his unwavering commitment to inclusive and holistic development. His love and affection for the people of India will always be remembered.”
“May his soul rest in eternal peace in the divine embrace of God,” he added.
