NEW DELHI, Jan 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary, saying that Gandhiji’s call for swadeshi remains a core principle for building a developed India.

The Prime Minister said Mahatma Gandhi consistently laid strong emphasis on swadeshi, which also forms a key pillar of the government’s vision for a developed and self-reliant nation.

“My tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his death anniversary,” Modi said in a post on X.

“His personality and deeds will continue to inspire the people of the country to walk the path of duty,” he added.

India observes Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary as Martyrs’ Day to honour the life and legacy of the nation’s foremost leader and his supreme sacrifice for peace, justice and freedom. (Agencies)
