PM Modi held a detailed discussion with veterans on multiple aspects of the prevailing situation.

India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate: PM Modi Holds High-Level Meeting With Armed Forces Veterans, Chiefs Over Border Situation
As tensions along the India-Pakistan border intensify following Pakistan’s missile and drone attacks on May 8, targeting 36 locations across India’s western frontier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting on Friday with top military veterans to assess the situation and discuss strategic responses.
The meeting included extensive interactions with former Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with other decorated veterans who have served the nation with distinction. Key figures present were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
According to sources cited by IANS, the Prime Minister reviewed the continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control and international border sectors. The discussions were aimed at evaluating the evolving security scenario and formulating an appropriate course of action.
Earlier, the Indian Armed Forces addressed the media, confirming that Pakistan had launched a significant aerial intrusion on the night of May 8–9, deploying approximately 300–400 drones across 36 locations. These drones, suspected to be Turkish-made Asisguard Songar models, were likely intended for infiltration, surveillance, and testing India’s air defence capabilities.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated during a special Ministry of External Affairs briefing that the drone and missile barrage targeted both civilian areas and military installations, but all threats were effectively neutralised by India’s air defence systems. The Pakistani military reportedly appeared shaken following the failure of their attempted strikes.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi further revealed that the Pakistani Army also engaged in heavy-calibre firing across the LoC in conjunction with the aerial assaults. However, Indian forces responded decisively using both kinetic and non-kinetic means.
In retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22—which claimed 26 lives—India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terror bases across the LoC and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian government reiterated its resolve to dismantle cross-border terror infrastructure and safeguard national security.
