Emergency officials stated, “Rescuers have located the burning fuselage of the missing Russian passenger plane on a mountainside, approximately 16 kilometres (10 miles) from Tynda.”

The aircraft had disappeared from radar while approaching its destination—Tynda, a remote town in Russia’s Amur region, near the border with China.

Crew error during landing in low visibility is being considered the likely cause of the fatal crash of a Russian passenger plane in the eastern Amur region, according to a Russian news agency.

Preliminary data suggests there were 43 passengers on board, including five children, along with six crew members, regional governor Vasily Orlov told Reuters.

“All necessary resources have been deployed to locate the aircraft,” Governor Orlov wrote on Telegram.

The Amur region’s civil defence agency confirmed that rescuers had been dispatched to the crash site.

“As of now, 25 personnel and five vehicles have been deployed, while four aircraft with crews remain on standby,” the agency said.
