Pakistan Shelling Severely Disrupts Life in Rajouri Border Villages; Residents Demand Protection

RAJOURI: Residents of border villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district are reeling under fear and uncertainty after intense shelling and firing by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), triggered in the aftermath of India’s Operation Sindoor.

Local resident Abdul Husain voiced concern over the lack of adequate safety infrastructure. “The firing started suddenly—it was a terrifying night. Only 30% of the promised bunkers have been completed. The rest are still pending,” he said.

Another local woman, injured in the shelling and currently undergoing treatment, shared the devastation her family faced. “Our house has been completely destroyed. The shelling started early morning, and now we have nowhere to go,” she lamented.

In response to the continued shelling, authorities have ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in LoC-adjacent districts as a precautionary measure.

The cross-border attack occurred just hours after Indian forces conducted targeted airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) under Operation Sindoor—launched following the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

Confirming the developments, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) posted on X: “Pakistan again violated the Ceasefire Agreement by initiating artillery fire in Bhimber Gali, Poonch-Rajouri area. Indian Army is responding in a calibrated and appropriate manner.”

Heavy shelling was also reported in multiple sectors, including Mankote, Krishna Ghati, and Shahpur in Poonch, and Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri. Northern Kashmir’s Karnah and Uri sectors in Kupwara and Baramulla districts also witnessed intense fire.

Meanwhile, the Indian Armed Forces have confirmed that Operation Sindoor successfully dismantled infrastructure belonging to terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and PoJK.
