Jammu, Nov 24: In the wake of expiry of three years extention term on November 29, 2022 which was granted to Pakistan Chief of the Army Staff,Qamar Javed Bajwa by then prime minister Imran Khan in 2019 after his retirement, Pakistan will be having soon Lt Gen Asim Munir as its new chief of army staff, reliable sources quoted.
BIOGRAPHY
The new COAS Lt Gen Asim Munir will be administered oath of office after November 29 any time and he will succeed Qamar Bajwa as chief of the army as 17th COAS of Pakistan.
Lt Gen Asim Munir has served as chief of Pakistan military intelligence ISI earlier.He was front runner among three officers for the top military post.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb made the announcement on Twitter, saying that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif picked Lt Gen Asim Munir to hold the top military post.Minutes after the announcement, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif took to Twitter saying that the government came to a decision after following the law and the constitution and urged not to view the appointment through a “political lens”.
BAJWA’S VIEW POINT ON PAK ARMY
Pakistan outgoing army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa in his last address to soldiers said that the politics of Pakistan has been instrumental in interference of army matters which was quite unconstitutional and we have been not allowing the age old practice and will continue in future also, Bajwa said. He said Pakistan army has been constantly facing the brunt of criticism for the last 70 years though army had deliberations over it and resolved not interfere in any political issue.
WHO IS QAMAR JAVED BAJWA?
A career infantry officer belonging to the Baloch Regiment, Bajwa was chosen as Pakistan’s 16th Chief of Army Staff in 2016 by then prime minister Nawaz Sharif. In 2019, then-Prime Minister Imran Khan gave Bajwa a three-year extension citing reasons related to the regional security environment.”
