The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday paid floral tributes to Former Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi on her 38th death anniversary recalling her great contributions to the inclusive development of the Nation.
JKPCC also remembered Congress Stalwart Sardar Vallahbai Patel on his birth anniversary and highlighted his selfless services to the Nation.
JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani presided over the function in which Senior Party Leaders, DCC Presidents and prominent workers were present and paid floral tributes to both the leaders, at Srinagar Party Office.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikar Rasool Wani said that Nation would continue to remain indebted to Smt.Indira Gandhi for her self-services and great contributions in Nation Building.
Gandhi was known as Iron Lady given her valour and leadership qualities, Wani added and said the departed leader took the prestige of the Nation to the new heights in every respect and made India strong and vibrant in defense, communication, employment generation etc and worked tireless to free India from poverty and starvation.
JKPCC Prsident said that there was no match of leadership of Indira Gandhi, so far.
Wani also paid floral tributes to Congress Stalwart Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary terming him a man of integrity.
Speaking on the occasion Senior Congress Leader & CWC Member Tariq Hameed Karra highlighted the administrative skills and leadership qualities of Former Prime Minister and described her courageous lady, who never compromised on the integrity of the Nation and remained committed to protect Indian Nation from the foreign aggression & conspiracies. It was Indira Ji after Pt. Jawahar Lal Nerhu, who worked tirelessly to make India powerful country in the world while sending a strong message across the globe that Indian Nation could not be coerced or weakened.
Indira ji was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in 1964 and elected to 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Lok Sabha and held the portfolio of Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Gandhi remained prime minister from 1966 to 1977 and again served the Nation as prime Minister from 1980 to 1984, Karra said.
Referring to the country’s defence system, Karra added that Indira Gandhi did underground nuclear test in Pokhran and also launched lot of space satellite Arya Bhat.
Former Minister was also credited of granting statehood to Himachal, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura later Mizoram was also separated from Assam, as a state.
She signed 1971 treaty of friendship with Bangladesh and in 1972 and signed Shimla agreement to settle disputes through bilateral talks. She also signed 20 year peace agreement with USSR, Karra said.
Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohd Anwar Bhat also highlighted the achievements of Indira Gandhi and saluted her bravery and sacrifices towards the Nation.
Among other who were present and spoke on the occasion included Shameema Iqbal, Shameema Raina, Farhat Qureshi, Irfan Naqib, Nisar Ahmad Mundoo, Umer Jaan, Irshad Ahmed Ganaie, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Sahil Farooq, Sheikh Amir, Nazir Ahmad Lone, Gulsher Khan, Bashir Ahmad Khan and various other leaders.
