Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has reportedly filed a defamation suit against his estranged wife Aaliya Siddiqui and brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui amid their ongoing legal battle.
According to several media reports, the suit seeks Rs 100 crore as damages for the defamation and ‘harassment’ he faced due to misleading claims made by them.
Nawazuddin files defamation case, seeks apology
The ‘Sacred Games’ actor has also sought a written public apology from his wife and brother.
Nawazuddin’s lawyer Sunil Kumar filed the defamation case and the case is to be heard on March 30. The suit reportedly requested the court to pass an injunction to permanently restrain Aaliya and Shamas from defaming the actor.
It also states that both of them are not allowed to publish any defamatory content on their social media handles against him.
Reportedly, Nawazuddin has accused his brother of cheating and defrauding him. According to the petition, Nawazuddin also claimed that his brother instigated Aaliya to file cases against him.
The actor has also claimed in his suit that Aaliya used the Rs 10 lakh per month given for children’s education and Rs 2.5 crore for starting a production house for her ‘personal enjoyment’.
The petition further claims that Nawazuddin was blackmailed with ‘cheap videos’ and social media comments by Shamas and Aaliya when he demanded his properties back and that they both have misappropriated Rs 20 crore.
In the petition, the Gangs of Wasseypur actor also stated that his upcoming movies have been postponed due to the inappropriate and defamatory videos and posts made by Shamas and Aaliya. He claimed that he has been unable to attend social gatherings because of those posts and videos.
Nawazuddin and Aaliya’s ugly fight
For those unversed, Nawazuddin and Aaliya are embroiled in a divorce battle. They got married in 2009, however, in 2021, the latter sent him a divorce notice filed on the grounds of torture and domestic violence.
In January 2022, she lodged a complaint against Nawazuddin’s mother after the latter filed an FIR against the former for trespassing and forcefully staying at the actor’s home. She also filed a rape complaint against Nawazuddin recently.
