National Handloom Day was celebrated here today at Assistant Director, Handloom, Doda to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement on sunday. On this day, Handloom Department, Doda organized one day awarness camp at Doda where Mr. Saidullah Khanji, Rtd. Assistant Director was the cheif guest on this occasion in which large gathering of weavers/Artsians , trainees and the employees of department showed theri presence.
Sh. Abid Hussain Wani, WCW welcome the gathering and highlighted the importance of programme where as Smt. Kamlesh Kumari, HTO blessed the occasion with their speech. They said that women are a major player on the Handloom sector as they consist of a major workforce of the Handloom. She advised them that to come forward and take the benfits of various schemes being implemented by the department and give utmost preference to use of Handloom & Handicrafts products in the daily life. She informed that 16 Handloom Cooperatives are already registered with the department during the year 2021-22 and formation of more cooperatives has been unddrtaken by the department.
In his keynote address, Chief Guest Mr. Saidullah Khanji congratulated department on the celebration of the National Handloom Day and laid the emphasis on the motive behind celebrating this day. He said that this day was choosen as Handloom Day as Swadeshi Movement was launched in 1905 in which the freedom fighters bycotted the forigen goods/products/cloths and openly picked & burnt them. He further these progams organized will provide the way forward to the Weavers & Artisans and they will also work for the betterment of the Handloom sector.
Mr. Nizam-ud-Din Rtd. AHTO, Sh. Abdul Rehman, Rtd District Supervisor, Barket Ali, Rtd. Head Weaver, employess of the department JK Bank officials graced the event. The progarm was concluded with vote of thanks.
