At the Tiranga Rally in Srinagar on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah underscored the role of individual action in driving meaningful change.

Addressing the gathering, he recalled a time when hoisting the national flag at private residences was prohibited. “There was a period when the tricolour could only be flown on government buildings,” he said.

He narrated the story of a young Indian student in the United States who was inspired to see his peers proudly displaying their national flags in their rooms.

Realising he couldn’t do the same in India, the student returned home determined to challenge the restriction. He took the matter to court and ultimately helped secure the right for citizens to fly the national flag at their residences.

“This proves that even a single determined individual can bring about change,” Abdullah said, urging people to uphold the dignity of the tricolour and regard it as a shared symbol of identity and respect. (Agencies)
