Naked man enters women-only coach of Mumbai local train, triggers panic

The naked man entered the women-only coach of the Mumbai local train after it came to a halt in Ghatkopar.

Chaos ensued on Mumbai’s Central Railway after a fully naked man entered the women’s compartment of an AC local train on Tuesday evening, triggering panic among passengers. The train, which was travelling from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Kalyan, came to a halt at Ghatkopar station around 4.11 pm when the man unexpectedly boarded the women-only coach.

Women could be heard screaming and calling for help in a video of the incident that surfaced online. Eyewitnesses reported that many of the women were visibly distressed as the man remained in the compartment, refusing to leave.

In the video, women can also be seen tapping on the windows of the train to alert the officials of the matter.

The train’s motorman was alerted, and he stopped the train immediately to prevent the situation from escalating further. Railway staff, including a Ticket Collector (TC), were called in to handle the situation. The man was eventually removed from the compartment.

This unsettling event has reignited concerns over women’s safety in Mumbai’s suburban railway network. Women’s rights groups and passenger associations have criticised the railway authorities for lapses in security and have called for a thorough investigation.

Railway unions have highlighted the need for more personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) to be deployed, especially at key stations like Ghatkopar, where heavy foot traffic is common. They have also demanded that the recruitment process for security staff be expedited to address the growing concerns of women commuters.
