Jammu February 26, 2026:
The District Administration Poonch has ordered the opening of the Mughal Road (NH-701A) for vehicular movement on the Bufliaz–Peer Ki Gali stretch following the clearance of accumulated snow.

As per an official order issued by the District Magistrate Poonch, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be allowed to ply on the road with effect from February 27, 2026, strictly between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, subject to fair weather conditions and the absence of any unforeseen exigencies.
The decision has been taken on the recommendation of the 79 RCC (GREF), which has been directed to deploy adequate manpower and machinery at vulnerable and avalanche-prone stretches of the route. The agency will ensure prompt response to any eventualities such as landslides, avalanches, or shooting stones, while continuous monitoring of sensitive zones has also been mandated to facilitate safe, smooth, and uninterrupted traffic movement.
Highlighting the importance of the road, the reopening of the Mughal Road (NH-701A) is of immense strategic, economic, and socio-cultural significance for both the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley. The historic road serves as a crucial alternate connectivity link between the Pir Panjal region—particularly Poonch and Rajouri districts—and south Kashmir areas, including Shopian. Its seasonal closure during winter months disrupts trade, movement of essential commodities, access to healthcare, education, and other vital services. The reopening provides major relief to local residents, traders, students, and tourists, besides reducing travel distance and easing traffic pressure on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. The road also plays a key role in promoting tourism and sustaining historical and cultural ties between the two regions.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, including traffic authorities, have been directed to deploy sufficient personnel at key checkpoints such as Behramgalla, Bufliaz, and Poshana to ensure smooth regulation of traffic and strict compliance with the notified timings.
Commuters have been advised to plan their travel strictly in accordance with traffic advisories issued by the Traffic Police and to adhere to all safety guidelines during the permitted movement hours.
The order has been circulated to all concerned departments, including traffic authorities, Border Roads Organisation officials, and district administrations, to ensure effective coordination and full compliance.
