Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to address the Lok Sabha around noon on Monday as the House prepares for a special discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ — India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
A heated debate is expected in Parliament, with leaders from both the ruling alliance and the opposition set to weigh in on the April 22 attack and India’s retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor.
According to the Lok Sabha’s List of Business for Monday, the House will hold a “Special Discussion on India’s strong, successful and decisive ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.”
In the Pahalgam terror attack, 26 civilians were killed, prompting India to carry out precision strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Since the Monsoon Session began on July 21, both Houses of Parliament have seen repeated adjournments amid opposition demands for discussions on key public issues—including the Pahalgam attack and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The opposition has also called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond to US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks, in which he claimed to have initiated a “ceasefire” between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
The first week of the session was marked by major disruptions, including the unexpected resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the discussion on Operation Sindoor will be held for 16 hours in the Lok Sabha on July 28 (Monday) and another 16 hours in the Rajya Sabha on July 29 (Tuesday).
“All issues cannot be discussed at once. The opposition has raised several matters including the SIR exercise in Bihar. We’ve made it clear that Operation Sindoor will be taken up first. Other issues will be decided later,” Rijiju told reporters.
Meanwhile, floor leaders of the INDIA bloc are scheduled to meet at 10 AM on Monday to strategize for the second week of the Monsoon Session. The Lok Sabha will take up Operation Sindoor on Monday, followed by a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
