Minhaj Bashir Wins Bronze as 19th UT J&K Wushu Championship Concludes in Jammu

Jammu, April 2; 2026: The 19th Union Territory Jammu & Kashmir Wushu Championship concluded on a high note at the Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Stadium, witnessing an impressive display of talent and sportsmanship over four days.

The championship, held from March 27 to March 30, 2026, saw participation from over 1,200 athletes, marking one of the largest sporting gatherings in the discipline across the Union Territory.

Among the standout performers was local athlete Minhaj Bashir, who clinched a bronze medal in the highly competitive under-56 kg category, showcasing remarkable skill, discipline, and determination.

The event brought together participants from 20 districts of J&K, along with athletes from seven Khelo India Centres (KICs) and a dedicated contingent from the J&K Police, reflecting the growing popularity of martial arts in the region.

The championship commenced on March 27 with Ms. Nuzhat Gul as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony, highlighting the administration’s continued focus on promoting grassroots sports.

The closing ceremony on March 30 was graced by J&K Sports Minister Satish Sharma, who felicitated the winners and lauded the participants for their dedication and competitive spirit.

Addressing the gathering, he said the large participation reflects the increasing enthusiasm for combat sports in Jammu & Kashmir and congratulated medal winners like Minhaj Bashir for inspiring the youth.

The stadium remained packed throughout the event, underlining the vibrant and evolving sports culture in the region.
