SRINAGAR: Parts of the Kashmir Valley received light showers, while the weatherman has forecast scattered light rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds in some areas until June 7. Additionally, there was a drop in night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley and a rise in the Jammu division, officials said.
A meteorological department official said that in the last 24 hours, until 8:30 am today, Srinagar received 0.4mm of rainfall, Pahalgam 2.8mm, Kupwara 5.1mm, and Gulmarg 7.8mm.
He said there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in many places, with moderate to intense showers in a few areas for brief periods until June 7. There is also a possibility of thunder and lightning accompanied by gusty winds during this time.
The weather department has urged farmers to suspend farm operations until June 6.
Light rain and thunderstorms have been forecast in a few places on June 8, with partly cloudy to generally dry weather from June 9-15.
Regarding temperature, he said Srinagar recorded a low of 12.6°C compared to 14.8°C the previous night, which is 0.8°C below normal for this time of year in the summer capital of J&K.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 11.0°C compared to 12.2°C the previous night, which is 1.0°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.5°C compared to 8.1°C the previous night, which is 0.5°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 9.5°C compared to 12.8°C, which is 2.7°C below normal.
Kupwara town recorded a minimum of 11.3°C compared to 11.7°C the previous night, which is 0.4°C below normal.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum of 4.6°C compared to 10.6°C the previous night, which is 4.1°C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Jammu recorded a low of 30.5°C compared to 23.7°C the previous night, which is 4.8°C above normal for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal recorded a low of 13.4°C, Batote 17.6°C, and Bhaderwah 15.2°C, he said. (GNS)
