Indian being the oldest democracy is enjoined by a moral and constitutional duty to uphold the principles of sovereignty, international law and peaceful resolution of disputes, says MLA Wagoora-Kreeri in a statement.
BJP led Government cannot act as a mute spectator and give tacit legitimacy to the brazen violation of International Laws and internal sovereignty of Iran, a globally recognised state and founding member of United Nations. Such an approach works towards weakening the Global Order and puts sovereignty of a country at dispensation of powerful few. If we actively or tacitly approve the treatment meted out to Iran, we loose moral standing to speak when it happens to any other State. Our country must have a consistent principled stand aligned with constitutional values and international laws.
The statement further reads: “The assassination of Shaheed Syed Ayatollah Ali Khameini Sb, Supreme Leader of Iran and attack on School, that resulted in heavy human loss deserves strong condemnation, not only because Iran has had very good relations with India but also because India is a responsible democratic nation.”
The Congress leadership has taken a principled stand and voiced concerns about the situation. Government of India led by BJP must wake up and break the silence without any further delay.
Lone also requested Govt. to release the mourners who have been detained in last few days. He appealed people to maintain calm and register their protest peacefully.
