Meerut City SP Ayush Vikram Singh stated that the Muslim community would celebrate Eid on March 31 or April 1, urging them to observe prayers peacefully in mosques or Idgahs rather than on public streets.

“We have made it clear that Namaz on roads will not be permitted under any circumstances. Violators will face strict legal action, including passport and license revocation,” Singh added. Authorities have also deployed CCTV cameras, drones, and intelligence teams to monitor worshippers.

SSP Vipin Tada emphasized that security forces, including the PAC and RAF, have been deployed, and flag marches are being conducted. Additionally, officials have warned that social media will be closely monitored, and rumor-mongering or attempts to incite unrest will lead to immediate action.

The move has sparked controversy, with RLD chief and Union Minister criticizing it as “Policing towards Orwellian 1984!” Last year, over 200 people were booked for offering Namaz on roads during Eid.

Meanwhile, in Sambhal, authorities have prohibited prayers on residential rooftops and roads, reinforcing similar restrictions across Uttar Pradesh.
