Kishtwar: Security forces on Friday launched a massive search and cordon operation in the Singpora, Dichar and Sir Top areas of Chatroo Sub Division in Kishtwar district following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement.
According to official sources, the operation was initiated to trace terrorists believed to be operating in the area. Joint teams of security forces have sealed off the region and are carrying out intensive searches in forested and mountainous terrain.
The Chatroo belt has remained a sensitive security zone and has witnessed around half a dozen encounters over the past one year. Earlier this year, three top Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were neutralized in separate operations in the area.
Security forces have also suffered losses in previous terrorist attacks in the region, prompting heightened vigilance and sustained counter-terror operations. Further details are awaited as the operation continues.
