Jammu, February 27, 2026:
In a decisive action against rampant illegal mining and alleged official complicity, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has carried out an intensive two-day operation involving Joint Surprise Checks (JSCs) across the districts of Udhampur and Reasi.
The coordinated crackdown was launched following serious complaints alleging large-scale illegal extraction of minor minerals in the Jammu Division, reportedly flourishing due to a suspected nexus between mineral contractors/bidders and certain officials of the Mining and Ecology departments.
Acting swiftly to curb the unlawful exploitation of natural resources, specialized ACB teams led by Gazetted Officers conducted surprise inspections at multiple stone crusher units operating in both districts. The inspections were aimed at verifying compliance with statutory norms and uncovering corrupt practices facilitating illegal mining.
During the operation, ACB teams carried out extensive searches and seized vital evidence, including electronic gadgets, official records, and highly incriminating documents. Notably, several allegedly forged ‘Form-A’ transit passes—mandatory for the lawful transportation of mined material—were recovered from the operational sites.
The inspections further revealed grave environmental violations. All stone crusher units inspected were found to be actively indulging in illegal mining activities and operating in blatant violation of the prescribed terms and conditions. Officials observed that such unchecked extraction has caused serious ecological damage and poses long-term environmental risks to the region.
The ACB has taken cognizance of the matter and further investigation is underway to ascertain the role of contractors as well as public servants involved in facilitating these illegal operations. More action, including widening of the probe and legal proceedings, is expected as the investigation progresses.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against corruption and environmental exploitation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau stated that such operations will continue to dismantle corrupt networks and protect the fragile natural resources of Jammu and Kashmir.
