Jammu, October 18, 2025:
Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Saturday addressed a mega public rally at Nagrota, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from locals and party supporters.
Describing it as a “vibrant and inspiring” gathering, Sharma said the warmth and enthusiasm of the people reflected their strong faith in the BJP’s vision for holistic progress, development, and empowerment across every corner of Nagrota.
Sharma also expressed his delight over the nomination of Sushri Devyani Rana as the BJP candidate from the Nagrota constituency.
“Her unwavering commitment to public service and the welfare of the people will undoubtedly take Nagrota to greater heights,” he said, expressing confidence in her leadership and ability to deliver on the aspirations of the people.
The rally at Nagrota marked a major show of strength for the BJP in the Jammu region as the election campaign gains momentum ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls.
The November 11 by-elections for the Budgam (Kashmir) and Nagrota (Jammu) Assembly seats have intensified into a multi-cornered political battle, testing the current political equilibrium in J&K.
In Nagrota, the BJP is backing Devyani Rana, daughter of the late MLA Davinder Singh Rana, banking on a sympathy factor to retain the seat. Challenging her is the Aam Aadmi Party’s nominee, Advocate Joginder Singh, JKNPP Chief Harsh Dev Singh alongside candidates from the NC-Congress alliance who are yet to announce the canidates and others, making it a tightly contested affair in the Jammu region.
Budgam remains a high-stakes arena for the ruling NC, which faces internal dissent from key leaders like Aga Syed Ruhullah. The BJP has strategically fielded Aga Syed Mohsin, while AAP has nominated Deba Khan. The entry of AAP and the presence of Awami Ittehad Party’s Nazir Khan signal a fragmentation of the anti-BJP vote, turning Budgam into a crucial measure of the ruling NC’s current standing in the Valley.
