“For 76 years, the Constitution has been a beacon of equity, liberty, and social justice, and a guiding light for the citizens of this great country,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Wednesday.
The Lieutenant Governor was speaking at the Constitution Day celebrations in Jammu, where he administered the reading of the ‘Preamble to the Constitution’ and paid tributes to the founding fathers and architects of the Indian Constitution.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor called upon policymakers and officers to uphold constitutional values and remain committed to protecting the rights of citizens.
“Our Constitution is venerable and has paved the way for India’s progress. We must keep national unity and integrity intact. It is essential to instill self-confidence and self-respect in society, and use every resource to make India powerful and self-reliant,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that after a long wait of 67 years, the provisions of the Constitution were made fully applicable to Jammu & Kashmir in 2019, ending an era of discrimination and injustice.
“Today, J&K is moving ahead guided by the ideals of equity, and social and economic justice, as enshrined in the Constitution by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar,” he added.
He said that from the very beginning, his mission in J&K has been to improve the lives of citizens, eradicate discrimination and injustice, dismantle the terror ecosystem, and ensure that the benefits of central schemes reach the most disadvantaged sections of society.
“To those who ask what has been achieved in the last five years, I want to say that the practice of rewarding separatists and harassing patriots has been completely stopped.
By implementing all constitutional provisions, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has ensured honour, pride, and dignity for every resident of J&K,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The UT-level event, commemorating 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution, was organised by the Department of Culture in collaboration with the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Hon’ble Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Shri Abdul Rahim Rather; Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti, Shri Shaleen Kabra; Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education, Shri Shantmanu; Principal Secretary Culture, Shri Brij Mohan Sharma; Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shri Ramesh Kumar; IGP Jammu, Shri Bhim Sen Tuti; Secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Achal Sethi, along with senior officials, prominent citizens, and a large number of youth, attended the Constitution Day celebrations.
