Kishtwar, October 11:
The Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (JKRETTF), District Kishtwar unit, led by District President Sheikh Musharaf, has urged the education authorities to address several pressing concerns of the teaching fraternity, including a revision in school timings in view of the falling temperatures across the region.

In a statement issued to the media, Sheikh Musharaf appealed to the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kishtwar and Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ) to modify the existing school timing from 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. to 10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. for winter zone areas. He said the dropping temperatures and long travel distances make it difficult for students and teachers, especially those from remote areas, to reach schools on time during early hours.

The Forum President also drew attention to other long-pending demands of the teaching community, including the adjustment of teachers on substantive posts, revocation of the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)—in line with the recent CAT decision favoring teachers appointed before 2010 but regularized afterward.

He further demanded the timely release of DA and CEA arrears, quick disposal of one-time exemption and prior permission cases, and a fair and transparent transfer policy—particularly to benefit female ReTs serving in hard and far-flung zones. Sheikh Musharaf also called for a salary hike for Aayas and Cooks engaged under the Mid-Day Meal scheme, citing their crucial role in the smooth functioning of schools.

Lauding the dedication and commitment of teachers who continue to serve in challenging conditions, the JKRETTF leader expressed optimism that the CEO Kishtwar and DSE Jammu will take prompt and positive action to redress these long-pending grievances, ensuring relief to both teachers and students across the district.
