In line with the Union Territory–wide drive launched across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including intensified checking in the Chenab Valley districts of Doda and Kishtwar, Jammu (Rural) Police achieved a major breakthrough after a team from Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, led by SHO Inspector Vikas Dogra, established a special naka at Jhajjar Kotli.

During the operation, police seized seven vehicles found violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. These vehicles had been brought from outside the Union Territory but had not undergone the mandatory legal transfer of ownership to their current users—an issue that has emerged as a widespread concern across J&K.

The seized vehicles include:

1. DL10CT6494 – Mahindra TUV

2. HR40F9281 – Maruti Alto

3. HR98H7856 – Tata Nexon

4. RJ23TA3220 – Chevrolet Tavera

5. PB01A3607 – Chevrolet Tavera

6. PB06AV7825 – Mahindra Xylo

7. HR68C3878 – Tata Truck

Authorities said that similar drives are currently underway in all districts of the UT, including Ramban, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Baramulla, and the far-flung belts of Doda and Kishtwar, where officers have intensified checking in view of increasing instances of vehicles being brought from other states without completing requisite documentation.

A week ago, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kishtwar, issued a circular instructing all vehicle owners and transport agencies in the district to complete the legal transfer of ownership for vehicles brought from outside the UT within a stipulated time frame, warning that failure to comply would attract strict enforcement action by the police and transport authorities.

Police officials pointed out that the strict checking of vehicles brought from outside the Union Territory is not only a matter of compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act but also a crucial security measure. Unregistered or illegally transferred vehicles can be used for criminal activities, including smuggling, theft, or movement of unauthorized goods, posing a potential threat to public safety. In districts like Doda and Kishtwar, which have sensitive terrain and have witnessed security incidents in the past, such enforcement drives help authorities maintain law and order while ensuring that all vehicles on the road are properly documented and traceable.

Jammu & Kashmir Police across 20 Districts of Union Territory has appealed to all vehicle owners and users across the Union Territory to strictly comply with legal norms and ensure timely transfer of ownership to avoid seizure, penalties, or other legal consequences.
