Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has strongly condemned the killing of Mohd Parvez, a resident of Niki Tawi, Jammu, who was reportedly shot during a police operation late Wednesday night.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Omar Abdullah described the incident as “deeply regrettable and highly unfortunate,” stressing that the use of force by law enforcement agencies must always be restrained, proportionate, and within the framework of the law.
“The killing of a civilian under such circumstances is unacceptable. Jammu and Kashmir has suffered immensely from such tragedies in the past, and it is imperative that this case is investigated in a time-bound, transparent, and impartial manner to ensure justice and accountability,” Omar wrote.
Calling for immediate action, Omar urged the administration to suspend the involved personnel pending investigation, ensure an independent judicial probe, and extend all necessary support to the victim’s family.
He further extended his condolences to the bereaved family:
“I send my heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mohd Parvez. May Allah grant him Jannat and give his loved ones the strength to bear this loss.”
According to initial reports, Mohd Parvez was caught in crossfire during a police chase targeting suspected criminals in the area. However, family members allege he was an innocent civilian and demand strict action against those responsible.
The incident has sparked outrage in parts of Jammu, with several political leaders and civil society voices echoing the demand for justice.
