Internet services in Leh were suspended on Friday with immediate effect, leaving the district digitally cut off. The unannounced move has caused significant disruption for locals who depend on mobile data and broadband for communication, education, and business.

The suspension follows the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk, who has a large following in the region.

The region has seen increased political activity in recent days, with rising demands for constitutional safeguards and escalating protests and violence over various issues.
