US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that he prevented eight wars during his presidency, including a potential conflict between India and Pakistan. He made the remarks during a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is visiting Washington for the first time since journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s killing in 2018.
Trump said, “We’ve done a lot of good with this office. I’ve stopped eight wars… I stopped India and Pakistan… I’m very proud.” He also mentioned ongoing negotiations with Russia, saying progress has taken longer than expected.
Trump has claimed that trade tariffs helped avert a large-scale India-Pakistan war, a claim denied by India. The reference relates to border clashes following India’s May precision strikes on Pakistani terror camps under Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 civilians.
Crown Prince Mohammed, 39, effectively runs Saudi Arabia’s daily affairs and frequently represents the kingdom internationally. His last visit to the White House was in 2018, just before Khashoggi’s murder. Trump previously hosted him in Riyadh in May, receiving a lavish welcome with fighter jets, an honour guard, and Arabian horses. (Agencies)
