During his visit to the Border Outpost ‘Vinay’ near the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, Shah paid homage to Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad, who was martyred in 2019 while serving at the border. This marked Shah’s second visit to the Jammu frontier, following his 2021 tour of the Makwal Border Post.

Shah was accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Director General of the BSF, and other senior officials.

In his address to BSF personnel, Shah announced that the government is implementing an advanced electronic surveillance system to secure India’s borders. He revealed that over 26 technology-driven initiatives are currently under trial, including anti-drone systems and underground tunnel detection mechanisms aimed at preventing terrorist infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir.

Praising the BSF for its unwavering vigilance and dedication, the Home Minister said, “Our borders are safe today because of the BSF’s tireless commitment. Whether in freezing cold, torrential rain, or scorching heat, you remain alert 24/7, 365 days a year.”

Highlighting the BSF’s crucial role in all conflicts with Pakistan, Shah said, “The nation acknowledges the BSF as the first line of defence. In every war with Pakistan, the BSF has stood alongside the army, playing a decisive role.”

The Home Minister assured that the government is focused on completing key border security initiatives over the next 3–4 years along both the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders. These efforts include deploying advanced threat detection and rapid response systems.

“We are committed to supporting the BSF with all necessary resources. The 26 ongoing tech experiments will help us finalise decisions within a year that will significantly enhance your capabilities,” he said.

Later in the day, Shah inaugurated several newly constructed facilities at the border, including 8 women’s barracks, high-mast lights, a G+1 tower, and a composite Border Outpost (BOP). These facilities, developed at a cost of ₹47.22 crore, are aimed at improving both the security infrastructure and the living conditions of BSF personnel.
