Ghulam Nabi Azad launches Democratic Azad Party in Jammu and Kashmir

Former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday announced the name of his new party. It will be called Democratic Azad Party.
Azad had quit the Congress on August 26.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, the veteran politician said, ” Around 1,500 names for my new party were sent to us, in Urdu, Sanskrit. The mix of Hindi & Urdu is’Hindustani’. We want the name to be democratic, peaceful & independent.”

Azad also unveiled the flag of the Democratic Azad Party. The flag has three colours – mustard, white and blue.

Azad had held a meeting with his party leaders and workers on Sunday.
The announcement of the name of the party comes amidst the impending assembly polls in the Union territory.

Earlier, the former Congress leader while announcing a new political outfit had said that, his party will focus on restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, right to land and employment for those holding domicile of Jammu and Kashmir.

Azad was the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008. He was also the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, as a member of the Congress.
