Parliament House, Canberra, Mar 26: German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius on Thursday described the Iran conflict as an economic “catastrophe” and said Germany does not want to be “sucked into” the war.
Pistorius emphasized that Germany is ready to assist in securing peace once a ceasefire is achieved and called for an immediate halt to hostilities. “To make it crystal clear, this war is a catastrophe for the world’s economies,” he told reporters at the Australian Parliament House.
“From the beginning, we were not consulted. Nobody asked us beforehand. It’s not our war, and therefore we do not want to get sucked into it,” Pistorius added.
The German Defence Minister spoke to the media in Canberra following a meeting with his Australian counterpart, Richard Marles. (Agency)
