Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said her party would consider supporting the National Conference (NC) in the Rajya Sabha elections only if the government clears at least two key bills proposed by the PDP in the upcoming assembly session.
Speaking to reporters, Mehbooba said that NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah had personally called her seeking PDP’s support in the Rajya Sabha polls. “Farooq Sahib called me and asked for support. I told him that if they clear our bills, then we will think about supporting them,” Mehbooba said,
She added that her party has submitted two important bills in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly — one aimed at stopping “bulldozer politics” and another seeking regularisation of daily wagers and casual workers. “They should at least pass these two bills of the PDP; only then will we consider supporting the NC in the Rajya Sabha elections,” she said.
The PDP chief emphasized that her party’s demands are based on the “public interest” rather than political calculations.
Mehbooba’s remarks come amid intensified political maneuvering ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The NC has already reached out to other parties, including the PDP, Congress, People’s Conference, and independents, to support its candidates in a bid to keep the BJP out. (Agencies)
