Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Friday said that Baramulla Member of Parliament Er Rashid met Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu inside the Parliament chamber to raise serious concerns over the proposed alignment of the Baramulla–Uri railway line.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Railway Ministry. Inam Un Nabi said Er Rashid informed the MoS Railways that the current alignment is proposed to pass through densely populated residential areas of Baramulla town, including Sherwani Colony, Jetty Khawajabagh, and Fatehpora. He said this could lead to large-scale displacement, demolition of homes, and damage to essential community infrastructure.

Inam added that Er Rashid sought an immediate review of the proposed alignment, the adoption of alternative routes that bypass residential localities, and meaningful consultation with local stakeholders before the project is finalised. He further said that a delegation of Baramulla residents will also meet officials of the Railway Ministry in the coming days to personally present their concerns.

He said Er Rashid had earlier raised the issue with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as well, urging a humane and people-friendly realignment of the Baramulla–Uri railway line. The AIP reiterated that it stands firmly with the residents of Baramulla and will continue to pursue the matter to ensure justice, fairness, and sustainable development. (Agencies)
