A truck driver lost his life Monday morning after his vehicle met with a fatal accident in the Laripora area of Pahalgam, South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said the accident occurred when a tipper truck, bearing registration number JK01AJ-7136, went out of control and overturned at Laripora. The impact was severe, leaving the driver trapped under the vehicle.
Locals and police rushed to the spot soon after the accident and rescued the driver from the wreckage, but he succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Deceased driver identified as Mehrajuddin Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat from Baramulla district.
Police have registered a case and initiated proceedings under relevant sections of the law. The overturned vehicle was later removed to restore traffic in the area.
Locals said the road stretch where the accident occurred is narrow and slippery, especially in the early hours, often causing mishaps. They urged authorities to implement safety measures to prevent further accidents in the tourist zone.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after completion of medico-legal formalities.
