As per the details available with News Insider 24X7, the accused has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah, for offences punishable under Sections 302/34 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and Section 7/27 of the Arms Act.

The case originated from FIR No. 57/2002, registered at Police Station Gandoh on July 4, 2002, following the cold-blooded murder of Shri Sher Mohammad, Sarpanch of Changa Gandoh. Irfan Ali and his associates, reportedly linked with a militant outfit, had gunned down the victim before fleeing the area.

Despite the seriousness of the offence, the investigation witnessed a prolonged delay, with the challan being filed only after 17 years, on May 28, 2019. The reasons behind the slow pace of investigation are not immediately known, but the long gap significantly extended the process of justice. The accused had remained in judicial custody since 2019.

Afterwards, the case went through a six-year-long trial, and on October 8, 2025, the Hon’ble Sessions Court, Bhaderwah, finally pronounced the verdict — finding Irfan Ali guilty and sentencing him to life imprisonment.

The entire judicial process, spanning over 23 years from registration to conviction, highlights both the persistence of law enforcement agencies and the challenges of ensuring timely justice in terrorism-related cases.

The prosecution was effectively conducted by Sh. K.K. Bandral, Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO), Bhaderwah.

This conviction stands as a testament to the commitment of Doda Police to bring perpetrators of terrorism to justice and reaffirm faith in the rule of law, even when the path to justice is delayed and demanding.
