Director, Census Operations, J&K, Shri Amit Sharma has been bereaved

Mother passed away in Jammu after a brief illness.

Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Director, Census Operations, J&K and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, on Saturday suffered an irreparable personal loss with the demise of his mother, Santosh Sharma.

Santosh Sharma, wife of former MLA and doyen of the cooperative movement in J&K, late Baldev Sharma, passed away in Jammu after a brief illness.

Sharing a brief account of his personal loss, Amit Sharma, who is presently serving as Director Census Operations (DCO) and Director Citizen Registration (DCR), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, for the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh, said that his mother had been unwell for the past few days and was a long-time survivor of liver and heart-related ailments.

The last rites of Santosh Sharma, who was widely respected for her dignity in public life and quiet support to public service, were performed on Saturday evening, January 31, at Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground, Jammu.

A cross-section of people, including senior bureaucrats and officials from the police and civil administration, attended the last rites.

She is survived by her son, Amit Sharma, a 2012-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer.

Amit Sharma described his mother as a constant source of inspiration who laid a strong foundation for his education, values, and social life.

People from different walks of life expressed condolences to the senior IAS officer and prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength to the family.

A large number of mourners also visited the bereaved family at their residence in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
