Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited Dil-Luminati concert in Indore became the centre of controversy following protests by the Bajrang Dal. The protests erupted after news spread that the event would feature the serving of alcohol and meat, which raised concerns among local groups about cultural implications, as reported by The Mint.
The protests were led by members of the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), who voiced their strong opposition to these provisions at the concert. Yash Bachani, a member of VHP, emphasized the group’s stance by stating, “We have come here to inspect the concert where liquor will be served openly, and meat will be provided. We are also keeping an eye out for any Love Jihad incidents.” Local BJP MLAs Usha Thakur and Golu Shukla also lent their support to the protests.
However, Diljit Dosanjh, who is known for his calm and composed demeanor, responded indirectly to the protests during his performance. The Ikk Kudi singer recited a verse by the legendary Rahat Indori, “Kisi ke baap ka Hindustaan thodi hai,” sending a clear message about his defiance in the face of such protests, as reported by The Mint.
Despite the initial uproar, the concert proceeded smoothly, with no alcohol or meat served at the venue. Concertgoers confirmed that the event adhered to the rules set by the local authorities, which included a ban on these items. One attendee shared, “There was no non-veg, no alcohol at Diljit’s Indore concert,” confirming that the event had complied with the police’s guidelines.
This wasn’t the first time Diljit faced controversy on his Dil-Luminati tour. Earlier in Pune, the state excise department revoked the permit for serving alcohol at his concert due to protests from political parties and local residents.
Additionally, in Hyderabad, the Telangana government had banned certain songs with references to alcohol, but Diljit creatively navigated the situation by replacing alcohol-related lyrics with more neutral terms like Coca-Cola. Despite the controversies surrounding alcohol and meat at his concerts, Diljit remains unfazed.
Addressing concerns about censorship, he stated, “I just want that if you want to censor songs, then the censorship should be applied to Indian cinema too. In Indian films, the bigger the gun, the bigger the hero. Which big actor has not done a song on alcohol or a similar scene?” Diljit’s Dil-Luminati tour continues to captivate audiences across India.
The next concert will take place in Chandigarh on December 14, with the grand finale scheduled for Guwahati on December 29, as per media report. You May Also Like
