New Delhi: The Central government has categorically denied claims that Operation Sindoor was launched under “international pressure.”
Responding to a question raised by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman in Parliament, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh clarified that the operation was a measured and strategic response to a barbaric cross-border terror attack in Pahalgam, orchestrated by Pakistan-backed militants.
“Operation Sindoor was launched to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and neutralise infiltrators who were likely to be sent across to India,” MoS Singh stated in his reply.
MP Suman had asked whether the operation was initiated due to international pressure, to which the government reiterated that the action was driven solely by India’s national security interests, not external influences.
The Minister emphasized that India’s response was “focused, calibrated, and non-escalatory.” However, Pakistan retaliated by targeting Indian civilian areas and select military installations, the reply noted.
“These provocations were met with a strong and decisive response from the Indian armed forces, resulting in significant damage to Pakistani military infrastructure,” Singh said.
He further added that on May 10, 2025, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan reached out to his Indian counterpart requesting a cessation of firing and military activities, which was accepted the same day.
Meanwhile, the Opposition INDIA bloc continues to demand a detailed discussion on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack in Parliament. Since the beginning of the Monsoon Session, both Houses have witnessed repeated disruptions, with proceedings repeatedly adjourned due to the opposition’s insistence on debating key national issues including Operation Sindoor, the Pahalgam attack, and the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
