Budgam Cracks Down on Unauthorized VPN Use; 24 Identified, Two FIRs Registered

Budgam Police have initiated action against the use of unauthorised Virtual Private Network (VPN) services across the district following prohibitory orders issued by the District Administration banning their use.

Police said systematic verification and monitoring were conducted across Budgam in compliance with the orders. Since the ban came into effect, 24 individuals have been identified for violating the prohibitory directions.

Based on investigations and detailed technical analysis, police registered two FIRs against individuals found to have adverse militancy-related backgrounds. Officials said the cases underline the serious security risks posed by the misuse of encrypted digital platforms.

In addition, security proceedings were initiated against 11 individuals, aged between 18 and 40, for violating the prohibitory orders. Police said they were bound down under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS and later released after receiving a warning. (Agencies)
