Srinagar, Jan 27: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully evacuated 60 people and reopened a key road in Jammu and Kashmir following heavy snowfall in the region.
An official said the Bhaderwah-Chatergala route, located at an altitude of 10,500 feet, had been cut off due to the snow. The 118 Road Construction Company of BRO’s 35 Border Roads Task Force, operating under ‘Project Sampark,’ worked tirelessly for nearly 40 hours to clear the road.
Around 38 kilometres of the route, buried under five to six feet of snow, were cleared, the official added.
“The road was reopened by the evening of January 25, allowing the safe evacuation of 20 stranded civilians and 40 troops of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles, along with weapons and essential supplies,” he said.
The rescue operation was completed by 2:30 am with no casualties. BRO carried out the mission in close coordination with the Indian Army, ensuring swift relief and the restoration of vital communication links in the area. (Agencies)
