Bengaluru engineer quits Rs 1 crore job with no offer in hand, internet reacts

A Bengaluru-based engineer, Varun Hasija, has taken the internet by storm with his decision to quit a high-paying job without securing a new one. The 30-year-old product manager, with over a decade of experience, left his position at a company that paid him over Rs 1 crore annually. Hasija recently shared his decision on social media platform X, surprising many users. His bold move to leave a “cushy job” without a higher-paying offer has sparked curiosity and raised questions about his motivations.

In a thread of multiple posts on X, Hasija announced his decision and even explained his move. He wrote: “A couple of months ago, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life: I left my cushy, high-paying (₹1 Cr+) job without another offer in hand. No plan. No backup. Just the decision that I needed a break—a real one—for the first time in my decade-long career.”

“It wasn’t impulsive. Over the years, I’ve followed a structured framework for choosing where to work and what roles to take on. P0: Happiness P1: Impact P2: Wealth creation,” he further explained his decision in another post on the same X thread.

He even went on to explain each of the three points for leaving his high-paying job in detail. In another post wrote: “P0 – Happiness.

Out of the 24 hours we have in a day we spend ~80% of our conscious hours at work. If your workplace doesn’t bring you bliss, excitement, or joy, is it even worth it? For me, happiness at work is non-negotiable. Without it, nothing else works.”

“P1 – Impact

The work I do must create value—for customers, the business, or both. I’ll happily spend hours solving a business client’s issue to unlock $MM in revenue myself and/or lead a team of PMs/Devs to launch a potential cash-cow feature. Impact keeps me going,” Hasija highlighted.

In another post he noted: “It’s rare to find all three—Happiness, Impact, and Wealth Creation—in one place. So, you prioritize. For me, its been in the above order since quite some time now. And at my last job, P0 and P1 were missing for me.

”Apart from this, Hasija shared 11 other posts in the same thread to discuss various topics ranging from the challenges that the edtech sector is facing to his decision to take a break for the same. He also added that he has already started working on other projects and has even discussed with friends in Europe, the UK and Australia the prospect of settling outside India in the coming days.

How users reacted to the postSince being uploaded, the opriginak post has received over 2.28 lakh views, more than 1200 likes and several comments.

One user was surprised by Hasija’s courageous move and wrote: “Leaving a high-paying gig? That’s bold. Must’ve had some heavy reasons behind that choice, huh?”

Meanwhile, another user supported his decision and said: “Don’t continue if you aren’t happy wherever you are or at least don’t see a sign towards happiness is what one should follow.”
