The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday. However, one soldier was killed during the exchange of fire, officials said.

Troops had neutralised two terrorists in the same sector just days earlier. According to an official statement, the infiltrators were detected and engaged early in the morning, successfully preventing them from crossing the LoC.

“While foiling the infiltration bid today, one Indian Army soldier lost his life. Search operations are ongoing in the area,” Army officials said.

Reports suggest the infiltration attempt may have been supported by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), involving a strike near Tikka Post in Uri. The incident occurred in the Area of Responsibility (AOR) of 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) and falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Uri.

This comes a day after Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar died while on operational duty along the LoC in Baramulla district.

The Army’s Chinar Corps posted on X, “Chinar Corps deeply regrets the loss of the precious life of Braveheart Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar while performing operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence, and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.”

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, along with all ranks of the Northern Command, paid homage to Havildar Ankit Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The command expressed that it stands firmly with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also paid tribute to Havildar Ankit Kumar, expressing deepest condolences to the family and reaffirming their support during this difficult time. (Agencies)
