Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Srinagar to assess the prevailing security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.

During his visit, General Dwivedi was briefed by the 15 Corps Commander on the latest developments in the region. He also held meetings with senior Army commanders deployed in the Kashmir Valley and officials from other security and intelligence agencies.

The Army Chief was updated on counter-terror operations being carried out within Indian territory and briefed on recent ceasefire violations initiated by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC).

Earlier in the day, Pakistani troops resorted to small arms fire at multiple locations along the LoC, prompting a swift and effective response from Indian forces. No casualties were reported in the exchange.

The visit follows the deadly April 22 terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, where terrorists killed 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali citizen, injuring several others. The Indian Army has since ramped up search and neutralization operations in the region.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Indian government announced a series of diplomatic measures against Pakistan. These include the immediate closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals, and reduction of staff at High Commissions on both sides.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata and given a week to leave. India will also withdraw its own military advisors from its mission in Islamabad, along with support staff.

Additionally, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, holding it in abeyance until Pakistan stops supporting cross-border terrorism.

Nationwide protests and public outrage continue to mount, with demands growing for stringent actions in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
