Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, confirmed the participation of MP Shrikant Shinde, reiterating the party’s steadfast support for national security and unity. “Shrikant Shinde will represent Shiv Sena and convey the party’s firm stand on national unity and support for those affected by the Pahalgam tragedy,” the party said in a statement.

The Janata Dal (United), headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will not attend the meeting due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Madhubani. However, JDU Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha emphasized the party’s unconditional backing for any decision taken during the meeting.

The Pahalgam terror attack on Tuesday claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, marking one of the deadliest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama incident.

In response, India has taken a firm diplomatic and strategic stand. During a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi and attended by key officials including Home Minister Amit Shah, several strong measures were announced:

  • Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 until Pakistan verifiably ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
  • Immediate closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari.
  • Cancellation of all visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme to Pakistani nationals.
  • Declaration of Pakistan’s Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors in India as persona non grata, ordering them to leave within a week.
  • Withdrawal of Indian Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, along with five supporting staff.
  • Reduction in the strength of both Indian and Pakistani High Commissions to 30 officials each, effective May 1, 2025.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced these measures in a press conference on Wednesday following the CCS meeting.
